Know who signed

The signature is verified. So is the person.

Anyone can type a name and click sign. BuiltSign's identity verification confirms that the signer is who they say they are, before a single field is filled in.

The gap in basic e-signing

A name and an email address can be anyone's

Standard electronic signatures prove that someone used a link. They do not prove who that person actually is. For most documents, that is fine. For some, it is not.

Documents where identity matters

Employment contracts

You need proof that the person who signed is the actual candidate you hired.

Rental agreements

If a dispute arises, a verified identity is the difference between a winnable case and a difficult one.

Financial agreements

Loans, credit agreements, and investment documents require the strongest possible proof of consent.

Healthcare and medical consent

Patient identity cannot be assumed. It must be proven.

Simple for the signer

Three steps before the first signature

The identity check takes about 90 seconds. Signers complete it on their phone or computer, no app download needed.

01

Signer opens the signing link

They receive the usual invitation email. Before reaching the document, they are asked to verify their identity.

02

Scan a government ID

The signer photographs or scans their passport, national ID, or driving licence. The scan is processed immediately.

03

A selfie confirms the match

A real-time photo is automatically compared to the ID photo. If the match passes, the signer proceeds to the document.

The result, verified or not, is recorded in the audit trail. The certificate includes the outcome. No ID documents are stored after the check.

The difference it makes

With or without identity verification

Without verification

  • Proves someone used the signing link
  • Records the email address used
  • Logs the IP address
  • Cannot confirm who the person actually is

With verification

  • Proves someone used the signing link
  • Records the email address used
  • Logs the IP address
  • Confirms government-issued identity
  • Matches live selfie to ID photo
  • Result attached to the audit certificate
Proof that travels with the document

The result is embedded in every certificate

When identity verification is enabled, the audit certificate includes the verification outcome alongside the standard signing data. Anyone reviewing the signed document can see that the signer's identity was confirmed.

  • Verification result (pass or fail)
  • Type of ID document used
  • Match confidence level
  • Timestamp of the identity check

The actual ID scan and selfie are never stored in the document or certificate. Only the verification outcome is recorded.

Questions about identity verification

The signing process is blocked and the sender receives a notification. You can choose to re-invite the signer or cancel the transaction. The failed attempt is recorded in the audit trail.
Yes. Most EU passports and national ID cards are supported. Driving licences from a number of countries are also accepted.
In most cases under 90 seconds. The signer needs a device with a camera. No app download is required.
No. The ID scan and selfie are processed to produce a verification outcome. They are not stored, not forwarded, and not included in the certificate.
Adding identity verification significantly raises the evidential value of the signature. The eIDAS classification remains Simple Electronic Signature (SES), as BuiltSign is not yet accredited as a Qualified Trust Service Provider. AES and QES are in our roadmap.
